Saif Ali Khan spell out cricketing legacy of his family to his son Taimur Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan, though not pursuing a career in cricket like his father and grandfather, is dedicated to imparting the rich cricketing legacy of his family to his son, Taimur Ali Khan. In widely circulated Instagram videos, Saif is seen discussing their family’s cricket history with Taimur, who practices batting at a London cricket club.

Taimur, dressed in a white T-shirt with a blue stripe, matching track pants, and sports shoes, bats inside a net. Saif, in a more casual attire consisting of a grey cord-set, a black sleeveless jacket, brown shoes, and a tiny ponytail grown for his villainous role in the Telugu film Devara: Part 1, accompanies him.

In one of the videos, Saif explains the concept of cricket ‘counties’ to Taimur. When Taimur asks a question, Saif replies, “Counties are like clubs. Like Sussex, Worcestershire. Your great grandfather played for Worcestershire. Your grandfather captained Sussex.” The coach, astonished by this revelation, confirms with Saif, who proudly nods.

Saif’s paternal grandfather, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, was the Indian cricket team captain in 1946 and uniquely played Test cricket for both India and England. As the prince of Pataudi, he held the Nawab title granted by the Indian government post-independence.

Saif’s father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, also captained the Indian cricket team and received the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award from the BCCI. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi married actress Sharmila Tagore, a descendant of Nobel Prize-winning poet Rabindranath Tagore. Saif is married to Kareena Kapoor, and they have two sons, Taimur and Jeh Ali Khan.
