Salman Khan is a true king; nobody can have a bad bond with him” – Vashu Bhagnani

Biwi No 1 (1999) celebrated its 25th anniversary on May 28

The beloved film Biwi No 1 (1999) celebrated its 25th anniversary on May 28. The movie became a super-hit due to its engaging plot, family-friendly message, stellar performances, and hit music. Producer Vashu Bhagnani took a significant risk by releasing the David Dhawan-directed film during the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999, but it paid off handsomely. Biwi No 1 emerged as the second-biggest opener and the second-highest grosser of 1999, outshining films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, and Sarfarosh.

For Vashu Bhagnani, Biwi No 1 holds a special place as it marked his second collaboration with superstar Salman Khan, the first being Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998). In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama about the 25th anniversary of Biwi No 1, Bhagnani shared his thoughts on Salman Khan.

When asked about his bond with Salman, Bhagnani smiled and said, “Uske saath bond kisi ka kharab ho hi nahin sakta hai. Woh toh raja aadmi hai (Nobody can have a bad bond with him. He’s a true king).”

Bhagnani elaborated, “There are these superstars – Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Amitabh Bachchan – I don’t think they can ever have a bad equation with anyone. They are all good people and that’s why they remain at the top. They are busy, and it’s difficult to meet them, but they have dedicated their lives to their fans and admirers.”

He cited the example of the iconic TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, “When Amit ji appears on TV for KBC, people stand in their homes as if he has truly entered their living rooms. That’s the charisma he and other stars possess.”

Besides Salman Khan, Biwi No 1 also featured Karisma Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Tabu, and Sushmita Sen, with Saif Ali Khan making a cameo appearance.
