A breathtaking bronze statue of Bollywood legends Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, replicating their signature pose from the popular 1995 movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), will be unveiled in London’s Leicester Square. It’s a milestone moment since it’s the first Indian film statue to feature in the Scenes in the Square film trail. The statue will be situated directly in front of the Odeon cinema, celebrating that memorable scene where Raj and Simran, played by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, first meet.

Celebrating DDLJ’s Legacy
The big reveal is planned for Spring 2025, coinciding with DDLJ’s 30th anniversary on October 20. Directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films, DDLJ is a milestone film in Indian cinema. Much of its shooting done in the UK, the romance between two young non-resident Indians, Raj and Simran, is woven into the tale of their lives while on a European holiday. The fact that the film shot in iconic locations such as London’s Horseguards Avenue, Hyde Park, and Tower Bridge has only served to make it all the more popular across the globe.
A Global Recognition of Bollywood
Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Executive of the Heart of London Business Alliance, highlighted the importance of the statue, stating that it represents Bollywood’s international success and the richness of entertainment in London. This accolade puts DDLJ on par with Hollywood classics, recognizing the deep cultural influence of the film.
The lasting legacy of DDLJ is also being commemorated with the new DDLJ Musical, which will launch at Manchester Opera House on May 29. The statue is a powerful reminder of how the film’s lasting legacy has touched hearts everywhere in the world through the medium of cinema.
