SHOOTOUT… inspires a foreign film?

Sanjay Gupta can’t stop smiling. Though he has been accused of plagarism quite a few times in his career, this time around he could well be finding himself on the right side. That’s because last Friday’s release, THE RAID: REDEMPTION, has apparently lifted the entire plot and setting of SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA which was a co-production between Gupta and Ekta Kapoor.

Comments an industry observer, “THE RAID: REDEMPTION is about how a SWAT team infiltrates a building, which is a safe-house for the most dangerous killers and gangsters, to eliminate a notorious drug lord and his gang. Now SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA had the exact same plot with Sanjay Dutt leading his team to eliminate Vivek Oberoi and his gang who are holed out in a Lokhanwdala building.”

Another common factor about the two films is that it is this very shoot out which is the core plot of the film with majority of the running length concentrating on the incidents that unfold. As the cops take on gang members, there is gun fire from both ends, hence leading to a bloody scenario.

CHECK OUT: Sanjay Gupta-There’s no friendship in entertainment business

“It is high time that Ekta does something about it. She stayed quiet even earlier on when there were huge similarities between Oscar winner THE ARTIST and her last blockbuster THE DIRTY PICTURE. At least the first 30 minutes of THE ARTIST had so much in common with THE DIRTY PICTURE which had released first. Now THE RAID: REDEMPTION being more than just liberal in being ‘inspired’ by her SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA, time would just be right for her to tighten up her act,” comments a common source.

We would like to see if that indeed happens. On contacted, Sanjay was unavailable for comment.
