Actress Shweta Basu Prasad, who became famous in the early 2000s, recently spoke about being bullied on a Telugu film set. The actress, who started her career as a child artist in the hit Hindi TV series Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, then appeared in critically acclaimed films such as Makdee and Iqbal. She even received a National Award for Makdee under the Best Child Artist category.
Bullying on Set
Shweta talked about being bullied on a Telugu film set for being short in a video interview with Bollywood Bubble. She said the crew members would constantly make her realize how much she was shorter than her co-star, who was about 5’11” or 6 feet tall, and she was only 5’2″.
Though she tried her level best to cope in a new language, she was reminded of her height every time, while her male co-star, a native Telugu speaker, fumbled with lines but was never pointed out for it. “He would flub every scene, take retakes, and yet, nobody would say anything. Instead, they would constantly tease me about something I couldn’t help,” she said.
Professional and Personal Life
Shweta has worked in some Tamil and Telugu movies and has worked alongside stars such as Varun Dhawan and Pankaj Tripathi. In personal life, she got married to Rohit Mittal in 2018 but was divorced by him in 2019.
Shweta was erroneously arrested in 2014 on charges of prostitution in Hyderabad. All charges were, however, withdrawn by the Metropolitan Sessions Court, and she subsequently explained that she had nothing to do with the crime, claiming to be in the hotel for a film awards function.
