Sonakshi is reprising one ‘desi’ character after another and Sinhas stay on to be proud parents as both Poonam and Shatrughan Sinha feel that it is the right career direction that she is taking.

“The entire Sinha family finds it very amusing when Sonakshi is accused of coming across as this quintessential desi Indian girl film after film. But then what is wrong with that,” questions a family friend, “There are Sonakshi’s contemporaries who are repeatedly seen in Western roles but then no one questions them. On the other hand Sonakshi is an Indian girl working in Indian films for Indian audience, so isn’t it just apt that she stays on to be ‘desi’? Why question her?”
However in the world of glamour, one does expect a leading lady to be demonstrating different personas.

“Well, she hasn’t shut down her options,” the friend continues, “She is playing an NRI in JOKER. Then she was even willing to go ultra-urban and cool with RACE 2 though unfortunately her dates didn’t work out. In any case, these talks are rather unnecessary because she would just rather prefer to find her own niche.”
Sonakshi, who is now seen jiving to yet another desi track ‘chammak Challo Chail Chabeeli’ and would be playing a Patna girl in ROWDY RATHORE, a UP girl in DABANGG 2, a ‘sardarni’ in SON OF SARDAR and a Bengali in LOOTERA, sums it up on just one line, “I find this entire ‘desi’ v/s cool comparison quite funny.”
Guess just like Vidya Balan, here is another actress who has found her bearings and that too rather soon.
