What Really Happened Between Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor?

Karisma Kapoor's Ex-Husband Sunjay: Sister Mandhira Defends Him Amidst Controversy

The Kapur family dispute has intensified once again as Mandhira Kapur, sister of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur, has spoken out publicly about long-standing allegations and newly emerging tensions. Appearing on the In Controversial Podcast, Mandhira addressed multiple issues from rumours about Sunjay’s personal life to his highly publicized divorce from actor Karisma Kapoor, and the ongoing legal battle surrounding his will.

Mandhira firmly dismissed claims that Sunjay mistreated Karisma during their marriage, calling such narratives unfair and inaccurate. “He didn’t treat Lolo badly. Yes, they had a bad divorce. All divorces are bad,” she said, urging critics to consider the emotional toll such circumstances take on families. She added that people often “malign others” without understanding the complexities involved, stressing the need for empathy, particularly toward the children, the ex-wife, and the extended family.

In a surprising revelation, Mandhira claimed that Karisma and Sunjay grew close during her own honeymoon, suggesting that their relationship began under unusual circumstances. She also expressed regret over encouraging her father to approve Sunjay’s later marriage to Priya Sachdev Kapur. According to her, the version of Priya they knew before the wedding was very different from who she became afterward. “I feel like a fool to have done that,” she admitted.

Her comments come at a time when Sunjay’s children with Karisma Samaira and Kiaan — are legally contesting the will presented by Priya, Sunjay’s third wife. The siblings have approached the Delhi High Court alleging the document is forged and fabricated with the intention of excluding them from their father’s estate. On 17 November, Joint Registrar (Judicial) Gagandeep Jindal issued notices to Priya Kant and Shradha Suri Marwah, the alleged executor of the will, asking them to respond within three weeks. A hearing has been scheduled for 16 December.

Priya’s legal team has previously argued that minor errors in the will do not make it fake and pointed out that Sunjay’s signature had not initially been disputed. However, the children have now filed a fresh petition questioning the authenticity of the signature itself, escalating the courtroom battle.

Sunjay Kapur was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, with whom he shares two children. In 2017, he married Priya Sachdev, and the couple has one son together. As the legal dispute deepens and public statements continue to emerge, the Kapur family remains at the centre of a sensitive and evolving controversy.
