Sunny Deol has officially announced “Border 2,” a sequel to JP Dutta’s iconic 1997 war film “Border.” The announcement was made on Thursday, June 13, exactly 27 years after the original film’s release date. In an emotional announcement video shared on social media, Deol references a promise made by a soldier to return, signifying the return to the story and themes of “Border.”

The video, accompanied by the nostalgic tune of “Sandese Aate Hain” by Roopkumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam, describes “Border 2” as “India’s biggest war film.” The sequel will be directed by Anurag Singh, known for his work on films like “Dil Bole Hadippa!,” “Jatt & Juliet,” “Punjab 1984,” and “Kesari.”

While the rest of the cast has yet to be announced, “Border 2” aims to carry forward the legacy of the original, which was set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and featured an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Suneil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Puneet Issar. The original “Border” was a major hit and is remembered for its patriotic fervor and strong performances.

Fans of the original film and Indian cinema enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating more details about “Border 2,” including the full cast and release date.
