It was not long ago when Vidya Balan was criticised for her dressing sense and oversized body. The actress was several time at the receiving end of some unfair and biased reporting.
But that was till mid 2011. After the release of THE DIRTY PICTURE, suddenly the actress has become all praise even from her worst critics. Now her plump figure is the new fashion statement and so are her traditional looks, which earlier drew nothing but flak.

Vidya admits that post her THE DIRTY PICTURE act much has changed not only in her professional life but otherwise too. She says, ”Women are being humanized. You were either being glorified or demeaned. But there is a middle path today, reflective of the way society is evolving.” According to many, Vidya’s success has bought a new kind of respect to the female protagonist in our industry.

Vidya might have found peace after going through the tabloid torment which she still recalls in these words, ”It has been something I have dealt with for the longest time but it does not bother me anymore. If you feel desirable, then you can look into it. People said I was the hottest in THE DIRTY PICTURE, where I put on 12kg. Indian bodies are curvaceous, we have certain features. There was this certain homogenization a while ago where everyone wanted to look like their Western counterparts. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I love Indian features, the Indian body.”
Right now Vidya has only one wish and that is to see her upcoming film KAHAANI to repeat the success of her last film.
