The plight of the 21 year old Kashmiri Afshan Ashiq, who picked the stone on the eventful late April afternoon in her protest and later said that her belief that violence won’t solve the problems of the valley, will now be captured on screen.
To be helmed by Manish Harishankar who earlier helmed LAALI KI SHAADI MEIN LAADDOO DEEWANA & CHAARFUTIYA CHHOKARE, the rights of the said biopic are with MH films. Manish has assisted the prolific veteran Rajkumar Santoshi earlier.
AFSHAN ASHIQ
Titled HOPE SOLO, the movie will trace the journey of Afshan Ashiq and her dream. The director had met Afshan earlier and found her journey to be intriguing; her struggle to play football in the valley infected by insurgency wearing the blue jersey with Indian emblem is a story that speaks a lot. The member of Mumbai PIFA football club, Afshan looks upon two time gold medalist in soccer HOPE SOLO and hence the title.
While speculations are on about the casting ranging from Athiya Shetty to Kirti Sanon and all, a source close to the production says that nothing has been decided as yet on the lead. The shooting is scheduled to commence from January next year.
Afshan Ashiq is trained at the prestigious National Institute of Sports in Patiala and is admired in the Valley for her passion for football. She coaches the women’s team but that day Afshan’s character took a shocking turn, the picture of Afshan holding a stone went viral causing a big debate in the political circles.
Reportedly Afshan still believes that violence is not the solution.
