Why Amitabh Bachchan Thinks India Won the T20 Final Because He Skipped Watching It!

India crush New Zealand by 96 runs to defend the T20 World Cup title as Bollywood stars celebrate, while Amitabh Bachchan jokes he didn’t watch the match.

India scripted history on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, delivering a dominant performance to defeat New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With the emphatic win, India national cricket team not only defended their world title but also became the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cups and the first to lift the trophy on home soil.

The thrilling victory sparked celebrations across the country, with several Bollywood celebrities taking to social media to congratulate the team. However, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan offered a humorous twist to the celebrations by claiming that India’s victory happened because he chose not to watch the match live.

Sharing photos of the Indian team lifting the trophy on television from his home, Bachchan posted on X (formerly Twitter), “T 5679 – कहा था नहीं देखूँगा तो जीत जाएँगे ! हो गया (I said I wouldn’t watch, and they’d win! It happened)!”

The actor’s comment playfully referenced a common superstition among sports fans that their team tends to perform better when they avoid watching the game. Bachchan has previously joked on social media that he might be a “bad luck charm” for the Indian team whenever he tunes in live.

Fans quickly flooded the comments section with hilarious reactions. One user jokingly wrote, “Great sacrifice sir, please continue!” while another commented, “If that is the case, then you did well. Do this every time.” A third fan added, “I also did the same, thank god India won!” The lighthearted exchange added to the festive mood surrounding India’s historic victory.

Meanwhile, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan shared an enthusiastic message celebrating the team’s achievement. Posting on X, he wrote, “What a comprehensive victory!! Well done to our men in blue!!! You guys are champions, and watching you on the field has made us all very proud. Take a bow. Jai Hind!”

Actor Ajay Devgn also joined in the celebrations, revealing how emotionally invested he was in the game. “My throat is gone from all the shouting, but my smile isn’t going anywhere all week! #TeamIndia you have made billions of hearts beat with pride tonight! CHAMPIONS once again!” he wrote.

Adding a playful touch to the celebrations, Akshay Kumar posted a GIF of himself dancing from his upcoming film Bhoot Bangla. Captioning the post, he wrote, “Har ghar ka mahol (Scene at every household). Congratulations on bringing the World Cup home, Team India.”

On the field, India delivered a performance worthy of champions. After New Zealand opted to field first, India’s batting lineup unleashed a relentless attack, posting a massive 255 for 5 in 20 overs. The total became the highest score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final, putting enormous pressure on the Kiwi side.

New Zealand struggled to keep pace with the daunting target and were eventually bowled out for just 159 runs. The emphatic result sealed a 96-run victory for India, sparking celebrations in the stadium and across the nation.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the star performer in the final, delivering a devastating spell of 4 wickets for just 15 runs. His match-winning performance earned him the Player of the Final award.

Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson had an exceptional tournament as well. He was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 321 runs, including back-to-back half-centuries in the semi-final and the final.

With this victory, India strengthened its legacy in T20 cricket by becoming three-time champions and the only team to successfully defend the title. The triumph not only showcased the team’s dominance but also united millions of fans — from cricket lovers to Bollywood stars — in celebration of a historic moment for Indian cricket.
