India’s star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer Dhanashree Verma have formally sought divorce by mutual consent. Chahal’s lawyer, Nitin K Gupta, confirmed in a statement to Hindustan Times that the divorce petition was filed before the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai. The matter is now under judicial consideration, and the cricketer has sought privacy, requesting people not to indulge in speculation.
A Love Story That Started with Dance
Chahal and Dhanashree also tied the knot in December 2020 and were one of the most favorite couples on social media. Their playful Instagram reels and chemistry tickled the audience’s heart. They met on the sets during the COVID-19 lockdown as Chahal asked Dhanashree to teach him dancing. Talking about Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 11, Dhanashree said, “No matches used to take place during the lockdown, and everyone was sitting idle at home as all the cricketers.”. Yuzi viewed my dance videos and wished to learn. That’s where it all began.”

But in the last few months, there was talk of trouble in their marriage after the couple first unfollowed one another on Instagram. Dhanashree also dropped “Chahal” from her Instagram handle, adding further fuel to the rumors. This was only a day after Chahal had uploaded a cryptic Instagram post that said, “New life loading.” Later, he deleted all the photos with Dhanashree from his social media accounts.
No Truth to Alimony Rumors
Social media was filled with news stating that Dhanashree had demanded ₹60 crore as alimony. But her family quickly shot down the reports, terming them “baseless and irresponsible.” In a formal statement, they made clear, “No such amount has ever been requested, demanded, or proposed. The dissemination of misinformation does harm, and we appeal for privacy at this juncture.”
With the case now sub judice, Chahal and Dhanashree have both declined to comment further. Fans, however, continue to respect their choice while reminiscing about their erstwhile beloved relationship.
