Brad Pitt is set to star in The Riders, a new film based on Tim Winton’s acclaimed 1995 novel, which was shortlisted for the prestigious Booker Prize. The story follows a man who travels across Europe with his young daughter, searching for his missing wife, who mysteriously vanishes without a trace.
The screenplay is being written by David Kajganich, known for Suspiria and Bones and All. He will also serve as a producer. The film is being directed by Edward Berger, one of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood today. Berger recently directed Conclave, a drama set in the Vatican, and finished filming The Ballad of a Small Player for Netflix.

Production on The Riders will begin in early 2026, with filming planned across several European locations to reflect the book’s cross-continent journey.

The movie brings together a powerhouse team of producers: Ridley Scott (Gladiator, The Martian) is producing through his company, Scott Free, alongside Michael Pruss. Kajganich will co-produce with Berger’s Nine Hours banner. Brad Pitt will also produce the film through his company, Plan B Entertainment, with partners Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner.

This project reunites Berger, Kajganich, and the Scott Free team, who previously worked together on AMC’s acclaimed series The Terror. Brad Pitt was last seen on screen with George Clooney in the action-comedy Wolfs, and his upcoming project is F1, a Formula One racing movie releasing via Apple.
With its emotional depth, European setting, and a top-tier creative team, The Riders promises to be a gripping and powerful drama.
