Disney & Pixar’s Hoppers Set for March 6 Release: Here’s What We Know So Far

Pixar’s new animated sci-fi adventure Hoppers premieres in US theatres on March 6, 2026. Here is a full breakdown of the cast, story, production, and early critical response.

Pixar’s Hoppers Set for Wide Release on March 6, Here’s Everything We Know So Far: Before we begin, it is important to clarify that this article is based on publicly available information and early critic screenings. We do not claim to have personally seen the film yet, as it has only premiered at select events and will release widely in theatres on March 6. Disney and Pixar’s latest original animated feature Hoppers arrives as one of the studio’s most unusual concepts in years. Directed by Daniel Chong, known for creating the beloved series We Bare Bears, the film blends science fiction, comedy, and environmental storytelling in a way that feels both experimental and classic Pixar at the same time.

The story follows Mabel Tanaka, a 19-year-old animal lover who grew up spending time in a forest glade with her grandmother. The forest is home to a thriving ecosystem of wildlife, including a colony of beavers. Inspired by her grandmother’s love for nature, Mabel develops a deep passion for protecting the environment.

Years later, the city’s mayor Jerry Generazzo announces plans to build a freeway through the glade after claiming that the animals have already left the area. Determined to stop the destruction of the habitat, Mabel launches a campaign against the project, but struggles to rally enough support.

Her life changes when she discovers a secret scientific project created by her biology professor Dr. Samantha Fairfax. The technology, called the Hoppers program, allows a human consciousness to “hop” into a robotic animal body in order to study wildlife up close.

Seeing this as a chance to save the forest, Mabel transfers her mind into a robotic beaver and enters the animal world. What follows is a chaotic adventure where she must navigate animal politics, earn the trust of wildlife leaders, and prevent a chain of events that could threaten both humans and animals.

Inside the forest, Mabel encounters King George, a beaver monarch who leads the animals’ communal lodge. Together they attempt to unite the various species of the forest through an Animal Council made up of leaders from different ecosystems including amphibians, fish, birds, insects, and reptiles.

However, tensions rise when the council begins plotting revenge against humans, particularly the mayor responsible for the habitat’s destruction. The situation spirals into a bizarre political conflict involving robotic animals, assassination attempts, and an ambitious insect monarch named Titus, who aims to seize control of the animal kingdom.

The voice cast brings together a strong comedic ensemble. Piper Curda voices Mabel Tanaka, while Bobby Moynihan plays King George. Jon Hamm voices Mayor Jerry Generazzo, Kathy Najimy plays Dr. Sam Fairfax, and Dave Franco voices Titus, the monarch butterfly antagonist. The film also features performances from Meryl Streep, Sam Richardson, Aparna Nancherla, Melissa Villaseñor, Ego Nwodim, Nichole Sakura, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Development on Hoppers began in 2020 when Chong returned to Pixar after finishing We Bare Bears: The Movie. The idea for the story reportedly came from nature documentaries where robotic animals are placed among wildlife to capture natural behavior. Chong imagined what would happen if a human consciousness entered that world instead, turning the concept into a comedic infiltration story similar to a spy mission inside the animal kingdom.

Originally the film was pitched with penguins as the central animals, but Pixar executives encouraged Chong to explore other species. After researching the ecological role of beavers as “ecosystem engineers,” the filmmakers decided they would make more interesting protagonists.

Musically, the film is scored by Mark Mothersbaugh, marking his first full Pixar feature score. The soundtrack also includes an original end credits song by SZA titled “Save the Day.”

Whether Hoppers will become another major Pixar hit remains to be seen once general audiences experience it. But with its unusual premise, strong cast, and environmental themes, it already stands out as one of the most original animated films releasing in 2026.Hoppers opens in theatres across the United States on March 6, 2026.
