WWE icon and Hollywood actor John Cena recently revealed that he underwent a hair transplant in November 2024, a move that left fans surprised and supportive. Known for his fearless persona in the ring, the 48-year-old candidly shared that public trolling over his bald appearance eventually pushed him to seek treatment.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Cena admitted he struggled with the constant attention on his hair thinning, even though he tried hard to conceal it. “As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light,” he said. Recalling fans holding signs like “The bald John Cena,” the Heads of State actor said it was this criticism that encouraged him to explore hair transplant options.
Cena also detailed the hair transplant process, explaining, “They don’t do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another.” Post-surgery, he committed to a strict hair care regimen, including red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, and specialized shampoos and conditioners.
Interestingly, Cena revealed he regretted not opting for the procedure sooner. “If there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago,” he confessed. “I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of ten men suffer from hair thinning or baldness.”
The procedure has had a profound effect on his acting career. “A different hairstyle can help identify a role that might get me more work,” Cena noted. Referring to his breakthrough role in Peacemaker, he added, “It’s more than just action—it’s a love story, a workplace comedy. It’s changed my life.”
With retirement from professional wrestling on the horizon, Cena now prioritizes his health and time with wife Shay Shariatzadeh, embracing this new chapter with optimism.
