The Naked Gun is back! Liam Neeson stars in the most epic reboot trailer of the year

The Naked Gun franchise is back with a reboot, and it’s just as outrageous and hilarious as you’d expect. Liam Neeson steps into the iconic role of Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the legendary detective Frank Drebin, originally portrayed by the late Leslie Nielsen. The first trailer for the reboot has just been released, and it’s full of absurdity, action, and humor.

A Hilarious New Take

In this reboot, Neeson’s character is on a mission to revive his father’s slapstick legacy. One standout moment in the trailer shows a high-stakes heist gone wrong, with robbers preparing for action. But, then a little girl with an oversized lollipop casually walks through the scene. When asked what she wants, she responds, “Your ass.” In a shocking twist, the lollipop is revealed to be a weapon, and Neeson takes out the robbers in an action-packed sequence.

A Star-Studded Team

Behind the camera is Akiva Schaffer, known for his work with The Lonely Island, while Seth MacFarlane and producer Erica Huggins are backing the project. The film leans heavily into chaotic comedy, similar to the original Naked Gun trilogy, which was a massive hit when it debuted in 1988.

A Legacy Reborn

The original Naked Gun films—featuring Nielsen’s bumbling but lovable Frank Drebin—became cult classics. The series led to two successful sequels, but a reboot attempt in 2013 never took off. In 2021, Seth MacFarlane took the reins to revitalize the franchise, and with Neeson’s comedic timing, it looks set to be just as unforgettable.

The film will be hitting theaters on August 1.
