Miss Universe Faces Backlash, Disables Comments On Instagram

Miss Universe Instagram Page Disables Comments Amid Heated Debate

In a significant move reflecting the escalating tensions surrounding the Miss Universe 2025 pageant, the organisation has turned off comments on all posts across its official Instagram account. The decision comes after days of intense backlash, spiralling accusations, and increasingly toxic engagement online. The platform had become inundated with hostile comments, threats, and speculation questioning both the legitimacy of the competition and the credibility of its newly crowned winner, Fatima Bosch of Mexico.

Although Bosch secured the Miss Universe 2025 title, the reaction from a segment of the internet was far from celebratory. Social media was soon flooded with claims that her win was a strategic “damage-control” measure by the organisation, with detractors insisting that other contestants most notably Olivia Yacé of Côte d’Ivoire were more deserving. What followed was a wave of hostility so severe that Bosch confirmed she had received multiple death threats directed at herself and her family.

The controversy traces back to a viral pre-pageant incident involving Bosch and pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil. During a livestream, Itsaragrisil appeared to publicly insult Bosch, calling her a “dumbhead” in front of fellow contestants. The remark prompted Bosch to walk out of the event, leading to a mass walkout by other participants in an unprecedented show of solidarity. The encounter sparked widespread outrage, raising questions about the organisation’s internal culture and treatment of contestants.

When Bosch was eventually announced as the winner, critics accused the Miss Universe organisation of attempting to repair its image following the scandal rather than basing the decision on merit. Online discussions grew increasingly aggressive, transforming Miss Universe’s Instagram page into a battleground for heated debates, conspiracy theories, and personal attacks.

In response to the mounting hostility, Bosch recently spoke out, breaking her silence with an emotional statement. She shared that the backlash had gone well beyond criticism, saying, “In the past few days I have received insults, attacks, and even death wishes for one single reason: because I won.” Despite the vitriol, Bosch affirmed her resilience, declaring, “No attack will make me kneel, no insult will extinguish my purpose.”

She urged the public to reflect on the human cost of online hate and to choose empathy over cruelty, reaffirming her commitment to uphold the Miss Universe title with dignity and strength.

With tensions still high, the organisation’s decision to disable comments appears to be an attempt to stem further toxicity though the conversation around the pageant is far from over.
