From Fairytale to Fallout: The Shocking Truth About Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin’s Breakup

After almost eight years of dating, Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have officially ended their relationship. According to a report from People, the breakup “feels final this time,” marking the end of a long and often private romance between the Fifty Shades of Grey actress and the Coldplay frontman.

A Private Romance with Public Moments
The couple first sparked dating rumours in October 2017 after being spotted together in Los Angeles. Their relationship, though largely private, saw occasional public appearances — from Johnson attending Martin’s concerts to Martin supporting her at film events. Her father, actor Don Johnson, confirmed the relationship in early 2018.

Though breakup rumours swirled in 2019, they were dispelled when the two appeared together at a wrap party for Johnson’s film The High Note. In 2024, People reported the couple had been engaged for years but were not in a rush to marry.

Conflicting Reports Before the Split
In August 2024, sources told Daily Mail that the pair had been struggling to make things work despite their love for each other. Differences in schedules and career priorities were cited as major hurdles. While insiders claimed they had accepted the relationship could not be sustained long-term, Johnson’s representatives denied the split at the time.
