Sydney Sweeney is exchanging glamour for grit in her most life-changing role yet. The Euphoria actress will play the role of legendary boxer Christy Martin in the highly expected biopic Christy, and fans are already abuzz following the release of the first official portrait.
Released by Black Bear Pictures on the 21st of July, the photo finds Sweeney almost unrecognizable—wearing Christy Martin’s signature dark locks, brawny physique, and piercing stare. Sporting traditional boxing attire—red gloves, tassel-adorned shorts, white tank top, and mouthguard—Sweeney is the very embodiment of the tough fighter in the ring.
A Stunning Physical Transformation
Recognized for her long blonde locks and red carpet glamour, Sweeney underwent a dramatic physical transformation for the part. In an interview with W Magazine in June 2025, she disclosed that she gained more than 30 pounds and followed a rigorous training regimen.
“I weight-trained in the morning, kickboxed for two hours at noon, and trained at night. I was so strong, crazy strong,” Sweeney explained, calling reshaping her physique “one of the most empowering aspects of the role.”

TIFF 2025 Premiere and Critical Buzz
Directed by David Michôd, who directed The King, Christy is to premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) later this September. Michôd commended Sweeney’s work ethic, saying how shocked he was to see her transformation when later he saw her on the set of Euphoria Season 3. “She was happiest when she was in the ring punching and getting punched,” he said.
