Jason Momoa has officially shaved off his iconic beard as he gears up to reprise his role as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part Three. The actor shared the transformation in a July 30 Instagram video, where he used an electric shaver to remove his facial hair for the first time in six years. “This is the kickoff. ‘Dune 3,’” Momoa declared during the video, flashing a grin mid-shave. After revealing his clean-shaven face, he jokingly added, “Ah, only for you, Denis,” referring to Dune director Denis Villeneuve.
Despite his playful attitude, Momoa admitted he wasn’t thrilled with the result. “Damn it, I hate it!” he exclaimed. The beard has long been part of his signature image, featured prominently in roles like Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and the underwater hero in Aquaman.
Momoa also used the moment to reflect on his environmental advocacy, tying the shave to the launch of his water brand Mananalu, which aims to reduce plastic waste and lower carbon emissions. “I haven’t shaved since I started Mananalu,” he said, emphasizing the brand’s mission to protect the ocean.

Adding to the buzz around Dune: Part Three, Momoa revealed that his 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, will also appear in the film. Speaking to Extra TV, he proudly shared, “He did it on his own… I don’t want to help him.” He added, “There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own at his age.”
Set for release in December 2026, Dune: Part Three will also see the return of stars Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet, with production now underway.
