Marvel Studios has finally released the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, providing a first glimpse at the highly anticipated Marvel’s First Family entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Leading the impressive cast are Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing). In addition to the newcomers, Ralph Ineson will join as the powerful planet-munching villain Galactus, while Julia Garner has the role of mysterious Silver Surfer. Completing the lineup are Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich in as-yet-unnamed roles.
First Steps is the Fantastic Four’s first appearance in the official MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which owned the rights to the franchise as well as the X-Men. This film, unlike other Marvel movies, takes place in a retro-futuristic 1960s Manhattan, with the Fantastic Four seemingly the sole superheroes around at least until now. Of course, fans already have their theories about potential multiverse turns that could tie the film into the larger MCU.
This is not the first go-around for the Fantastic Four on the big screen. There were two relatively successful movies back in the 2000s starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. But the 2015 reboot starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell was a disaster.

Marvel has been hinting at the team’s MCU debut in recent years. John Krasinski briefly appeared as Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Chris Evans’s Human Torch resurfaced in Deadpool & Wolverine, although both incarnations died under tragic circumstances.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps promises a new start, with old-school heroes re imagined for a new generation.
