Dune trailer is here. Warner Bros. has unveiled the first proper look at its next big sci-fi franchise and it looks promising.
After months of teasing fans with futuristic first look character stills, the makers finally dropped the first official trailer on Thursday morning.
The film is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 magnum opus by the director of Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve.
The trailer of Dune introduces the desert world of Arrakis, home to the most coveted substance in its universe, “the spice”.
Films protagonist Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atriedes reveals he’s having visions in the Dune trailer, and he then sets out to get back control of Arrakis from those who oppose House Atreides, with the help of the woman in his visions, Zendaya’s Chani. Chani is also Paul’s love interest, as revealed in the trailer.
Apart from Chalamet and Zendaya, the sci-fi epic also features a posse of stars, including the likes of Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem in pivotal roles.
The 3:04 minute trailer begins with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya’s impeccable chemistry. The former is then traveling to a dangerous desert planet Arrakis, which was ruled by the Harkonnen family for 80 years, to ensure the future of his family and his people.
The story unfolds and the films primary cast are introduced one by one.
Dune definitely looks like an upgraded version of David Lynch’s adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel featuring epic battle scenes, explosions and stunning visuals. It ends by giving the audience a glimpse of the enemies in the form of the notorious giant sandworms.
The official synopsis for the film reads, “A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”
Dune is scheduled to release on December 18.
