Akon’s India Tour Bengaluru stop was supposed to be an electrifying gala, but a viral clip from the concert has triggered widespread criticism over one very unexpected and disturbing reason. Fans in the front row reportedly pulled at the singer’s pants while he performed during his November 14 concert, causing him to adjust them several times mid-song. The incident has adversely triggered outrage on social media platforms as many have come forward stating that the behavior was very disrespectful and termed it harassment.
The Bengaluru concert came a week after Akon’s Delhi show on November 9.
The final leg of the tour is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on November 16. A viral video clip recorded by Instagram user Zumair Khaja shows Akon performing his popular song Sexy Bitch in collaboration with David Guetta as he engaged with the audience in the VIP pit. Fans in the stands kept tugging at him, but Akon continued singing and resumed the performance.
The moment the clip surfaced online, people began condemning the behavior of the crowd. Comments thronged the post, terming the behavior “sad,” “unacceptable,” and “harassment,” as many expressed embarrassment over how the international star was treated on stage.
Some viewers also mentioned that Akon appeared to be lip-syncing during parts of the performance, which added further debate about the concert. Again, though, the central issue at play was the inappropriate behavior of the audience and general discomfort visible on the video.
Ahead of the tour, Akon had spoken affectionately of his return to India, saying he is deeply connected with the country, which “feels like a second home” due to its energy, culture, and fans. He had earlier said that he was very excited about the tour and promised his Indian audience that it would be a night to remember.
