The British band Coldplay has recently completed its India tour with a series of electrifying performances. It included three consecutive performances at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, which were held on 18, 19, and 21 January. The final performance was at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on 25 January. The Ahmedabad show was special for it had 134,000 spectators, making it the biggest ticketed show in Indian history.

During the Ahmedabad show, lead vocalist Chris Martin humorously claimed, “Everyone knows that I am from Telangana.” He further jested about the band’s Indian origins, assigning different states to each member. This light-hearted moment quickly gained traction online. Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda responded by sharing the clip on his Instagram Stories, writing, “Chris Martin welcome! Someone needs to make a ‘Podusthunna Poddumeeda’ X Coldplay mashup.”
The success of the tour underlines the sheer popularity of Coldplay across India. The high demand led to lightning-fast sellouts, and technical snags were faced even on the ticketing platform. It reiterates the upward trend of Indians towards any foreign live music event.
Coldplay will next perform in Hong Kong and Seoul in the continuation of their “Music of the Spheres” world tour.
