Ed Sheeran has revealed that his family requires constant security due to persistent threats and disturbing incidents. The global pop star, who lives with his wife Cherry and their two daughters, Lyra (4) and Jupiter (3), on a large estate in Suffolk, shared that their need for round-the-clock protection has become a permanent part of their lives.
Speaking on Australia’s 60 Minutes, Ed opened up about the darker side of fame. “It’s not just fans wanting selfies,” he said. “We’ve had kidnap threats, attempted break-ins, things left on my car… It’s way more sinister. We have a level of security that probably won’t change until I pass away. That’s just our life now.”
Sheeran also shared the emotional toll these incidents take, especially when it comes to his children. He admitted to having confrontations with fans who try to photograph him while he’s with his kids. “I’m fine with pictures, but not when I’m with my three- and four-year-old daughters. They didn’t sign up for this,” he added. “I want a more normal life for my kids.”
The singer further discussed his concerns on The Louis Theroux Podcast, revealing that security is present with him, his wife, and his children at all times due to multiple “weird” incidents. “In my industry, that’s normal,” Ed said. “No one really talks about it, but it’s part of being in the public eye.”

He also lamented how fame limits their family outings. “I can’t take them to parks or zoos without someone trying to film them. I mourn those normal moments,” he said, expressing how fame, while a privilege, brings a complicated trade-off—especially for his children, who never chose the spotlight.
