Singer Sonu Nigam recently addressed reports claiming he was pelted with stones and water bottles during his performance at the Engifest 2025, held at Delhi Technological University (DTU). According to the initial media reports, the disruption at the event led to chaos during his performance. However, Nigam took to Instagram to clear the air and set the record straight. He clarified that contrary to what was being reported, no stones or bottles were thrown at him. Instead, he revealed that only a vape was hurled at the stage, hitting one of his team members, Subhankar, on the chest.
Upon realizing the incident, Sonu paused the show and addressed the crowd, urging them to behave respectfully and reminding them that the performance would be cut short if such actions continued. “I paused the show and requested and reminded the collegians that the show will have to be abruptly stopped if something like that happened again,” he wrote in his Instagram post.
A Lighthearted Moment Amidst the Chaos
In an amusing turn of events, after the vape incident, someone tossed a bunny-ear hairband on stage, which Sonu playfully referred to as a “pookie band.” With a sense of humor, Nigam wore the hairband while continuing his performance, adding a lighthearted touch to the situation. He even shared a picture of himself singing with the hairband on and captioned it, “Nothing like hurling of stones or bottles as mentioned in some media happened at DTU. The only thing hurled on stage after that, was the Pookie band. Which was really Pookie.”
Despite the brief disruption, Sonu Nigam remained calm and composed throughout the performance. He addressed the audience directly, saying, “Main aapke liye aaya hun yahan pe so that we can all have a good time. I’m not asking you to not enjoy, but please aisa na kariye.” His plea was for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable time, maintaining order for the safety of all involved.
