Jigra, Alia Bhatt’s highly anticipated solo release of 2024, has struggled to meet box office expectations. Despite initial excitement, the film’s performance has been underwhelming, with collections continuing to dip during the weekdays after a lackluster opening weekend. According to reports from Sacnilk.com, Jigra earned ₹1.25 crore on its sixth day, bringing its total collection to ₹21.10 crore. This is Alia Bhatt’s lowest opening for a film in a decade, with its first-day earnings at ₹4.55 crore, followed by ₹6.55 crore on day two and a dip to ₹5.5 crore on day three.
The film, directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Dharma Productions, has also been embroiled in controversies. Divya Khosla Kumar accused Jigra of resembling the plot of her film Savi and alleged that Alia Bhatt manipulated box office numbers by purchasing tickets for her own film. These allegations have cast a shadow over the film’s release.
Jigra tells the story of Satya Anand (played by Alia Bhatt), a devoted sister on a mission to rescue her brother, Ankur Anand (played by Vedang Raina), in what is described as a jailbreak drama. Despite its star power and dramatic premise, the film has yet to see significant growth at the box office since its release on October 11.
