Captain America: Brave New World’s shocking Box Office drop! But here’s the silver lining that will save the day

Marvel Studios’ new entry, Captain America: Brave New World, maintains its theatrical release with a tepid box office reception. The movie achieved the lowest second Tuesday collection for a Captain America movie, collecting a mere USD 2.7 million, representing a decline of 57.1% from the earlier Tuesday. In comparison to its predecessors, The First Avenger grossed USD 3.6 million (-53.8%), The Winter Soldier earned USD 4.7 million (-32.3%), and Civil War earned USD 5.9 million (-56.9%) on their second Tuesdays, respectively.

A Silver Lining Amidst Struggles
Although the movie has underperformed in its opening weeks, it has now begun outgrossing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on daily box office, indicating a possible stabilization. Compared to previous Presidents’ Day openings, Brave New World is faring better than Fifty Shades of Grey (USD 2.3M, -58.7%) and Quantumania (USD 2.5M, -64.2%) but still falls far behind Deadpool (USD 5.2M, -55.4%) and Black Panther (USD 10M, -51.1%).

Presently, the domestic total for the film is USD 145.6 million, with forecasts predicting a total between USD 195 million and USD 215 million in America. The lack of strong competition in the weeks ahead could see it continue steady revenues.

Cast, Storyline, and Global Performance
Brave New World features Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, new Captain America, along with Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross. Directed by Julius Onah, the movie captures Wilson’s fight with the shield burden along with political conspiracy threats and threats around the world.

Worldwide, the movie has grossed USD 293.9 million and is likely to cross USD 300 million by the weekend. But with a production cost of USD 180 million (marketing expenses not included), the movie needs to earn USD 380–420 million to be profitable. Whether Brave New World will manage to do so remains to be seen, but its trend so far points towards a struggle ahead.
