The hit Netflix series Emily in Paris has been struck by tragedy after assistant director Diego Borella’s sudden death while filming the final scenes of Season 5 in Venice. Borella, 47, suffered a heart attack and passed away on August 21 at the iconic Hotel Danieli. Borella collapsed around 6:42 pm during rehearsals for the season’s final scene, La Repubblica reports. Medics treated him on the spot and attempted to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at 7:30 pm.
His death is confirmed to have been a result of a cardiac arrest due to a sudden heart attack, catching the cast and crew off guard as they were just a few days away from finalizing the shoot, which had been scheduled for August 25.
Production has already been officially put on hold after the tragedy. Il Messaggero reports that the team will reconsider the shooting schedule in the coming days.
