After years of anticipation, HBO’s Harry Potter TV series has officially begun production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K. The announcement comes nearly 14 years after the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, concluded the original movie saga.
Meet the New Trio
The first look reveals Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, donning the iconic round glasses and Hogwarts uniform. Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout takes on the role of Ron Weasley. The trio was selected from over 30,000 auditions in a global casting call. Additional casting includes Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Ollivander.
Star-Studded Ensemble Cast
The new adaptation boasts an impressive supporting cast. John Lithgow is set to portray Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer will appear as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu joins as Severus Snape. Nick Frost will take on the role of Hagrid. Other key roles include Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, and Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Petunia and Vernon Dursley.

A Season for Every Book
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod (Succession) are helming the project, with each of the seven books receiving a full season. Season 1 production is expected to continue through spring 2026, with a 2027 release on HBO and HBO Max.
