The trailer of Matka King, starring Vijay Varma, was released on May 7, 2026. The series is set in Bombay of the 1960s, a time when the city was going through major changes after Independence. It presents a story built around ambition, risk, and the cost of chasing success.

The show follows the journey of Brij Bhatti, played by Vijay Varma, who is shown as a smart and hardworking cotton trader. He wants to improve his life and take bigger steps to succeed. During this time, he comes up with an idea that changes the gambling scene. What was once limited to a small group becomes more accessible, leading to the rise of what is known as ‘Matka’. This idea soon turns into a large scale operation and spreads across the country.

However, as the story moves forward, the trailer hints that success does not come without problems. The higher the stakes go, the more complicated and risky things become. What begins as a simple dream starts bringing serious consequences, raising questions about how far one should go in search of power and money. The series focuses on themes like ambition, control, and the impact of one’s choices.

Talking about his role, Vijay Varma said, “Working in Matka King has been an exhilarating journey. Bringing this world and this character to life was both challenging and deeply fulfilling, especially in the backdrop of a different era altogether that I had never explored before. Also, returning to a Prime Original after Dahaad and Mirzapur is splendid.”

The series is directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur. It also features actors Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethiya, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia, and Simran Ashwini.

Matka King is set to premiere on Prime Video in India and across 240 countries and territories worldwide on April 17.
