Comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui has officially stepped into the world of OTT with his debut series First Copy, streaming on Amazon MX Player. Produced by Farhan P Zamma, the series marks a new chapter in Munawar’s career, showcasing his acting chops in a leading role. But before this big break, the journey wasn’t easy.
Early Struggles and Missed Opportunities
In a candid conversation with Zoom, Munawar revealed that acting has always been his first love. Long before fame found him, he dreamed of becoming a hero and tried his luck in Bollywood through multiple auditions. He shared that while he did receive offers, they were mostly for insignificant roles — not aligned with the kind of work he wanted to pursue.
He auditioned for films like Katrina Kaif’s Phone Bhoot and Alia Bhatt’s Darlings. Describing the roles, he said one required him to play a dead body with a one-minute screen presence, and another involved a pharmacy scene with a single dialogue. Despite feeling underprepared, Munawar still attended the auditions but admitted, “Main khud se auditions dene jane se hichkichata tha. Mujhe lagta tha main ready nahi hoon.”

Grateful for the Journey
Though he didn’t aggressively chase roles, Munawar now feels thankful that he wasn’t selected for those parts. Watching the final cut of the films, he realized that those roles wouldn’t have added value to his career. Instead, he focused on roles that came his way organically.
A Promising New Role
In First Copy, Munawar plays Arif, a witty and street-smart man drawn into the world of film piracy in the 1990s. The series also stars Krystle D’Souza, Gulshan Grover, Ashi Singh, Meiyang Chang, and more marking a significant milestone in Munawar’s evolving journey as an actor.
