Aap Jaisa Koi Review: A romantic comedy that tries to show a big subject in a light-hearted manner

“Aap Jaisa Koi”, starring R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh, is a romantic comedy based on love facing societal pressures. Directed by Vivek Soni, this film has been released on Netflix and has received a lot of praise for its story and acting. The story of the film is an attempt to show big topics in a light-hearted manner. The producer of this film is Karan Johar and this film has been released on OTT.

Story
The story of the film is about a middle-aged Sanskrit teacher from Jamshedpur, Shrirenu Tripathi, played by R Madhavan. He falls in love with Madhu Bose, a French teacher from Kolkata, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh. Their relationship faces difficulties due to family pressure and society’s judgement. The film tries to provide entertainment as well as drama.

Writing and Direction
The writers of this film are Radhika Anand and Jahan Handa while the film Aap Jaisa Koi is directed by Vivek Soni. An attempt has been made to raise some relevant issues through the film “Aap Jaisa Koi” and that too in a light-hearted manner. The film’s director Vivek Soni has made a good effort. But I feel that the issues challenging the patriarchal society in the film Aap Jaisa Koi should seem natural in the story and should not seem forced. In this film, it seems that these issues seem forced.

Acting
R Madhavan has proved his acting prowess with different types of characters and performances. Fatima Sana Shaikh is also a good actress. In this film, R Madhavan is paired with Fatima on screen for the first time but I feel that something is missing in their chemistry. The film has experienced actors in character roles, who play an important role in giving credibility to the story. Namit Das adds a touch of comedy in between. Manish Chaudhary has imbibed the patriarchal thinking very easily. Ayesha Raza is completely effective in her role. However, I feel that the writer has failed to do much justice to her character.

Conclusion
“Aap Jaisa Koi” is a romantic comedy that tackles some important issues in a meaningful way. But I feel that the film fails to be an effective way to break the harsh reality of a male-dominated society.
