Taapsee, Malaika urge women to take up self-defence

0

Actresses Taapsee Pannu and Malaika Arora on International Women's Day have encouraged women to be strong and take up self-defence classes to protect themselves and feel empowered.

Taapsee, who has featured in strong roles in films like PINK and NAAM SHABANA, is associated with #StandStrong – Women's Horlicks latest digital campaign to encourage women to take up self-defence

Taapsee said: "Women are breaking out from boundaries today and while they do that their bodies need to keep up. With the right nutritional support offered by Women's Horlicks we all can equip our bodies with the physical strength to be able to take care of ourselves. I have always inspired women to take up self-defence which can instil confidence in women to tackle any situation should it arise when one's own security is being threatened.

"I think a change always starts with small steps and through the #StandStrong campaign, I urge all women to empower themselves with self-defence for a stronger you."

Malaika has spoken out in support of Reebok's 'Bruises can be good' experiment.

"Today women have risen beyond the ordinary and made a strong mark for themselves in every role they undertake. Boundaries and walls no longer limit our spirit and strength. In fact, they are a stimulus to undo the status quo.

"‘Bruises are good' is a strong stance on women empowerment. It redefines our lens of viewing gender roles and show how determined women are in today's day and age. I have always been a supporter of women empowerment and more importantly women standing up and rooting for each other. This Women's Day, join me as I sign Reebok's petition to make self-defence classes a reality for all young girls," Malaika said.

The campaign unravels existing societal insights on violence and assault. It highlights, through a special video, how most people perceive bruises and marks on women to be a result of violence.

Reebok has made a petition on Change.org to make self-defence a mandatory part of school and college curriculum for female students. The aim is to send the petition to the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Chinese floored by HINDI MEDIUM!

The hugely successful HINDI MEDIUM that was released by T-Series and Maddock Films last year, has been given the distinction of a China release on 4th April, 2018. In the past, selective films have enjoyed a successful entry into the Chinese market. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Bhushan Kumar, directed by Saket Chaudhary, the Irrfan Khan & Sabah Qamar starrer received immense appreciation from audiences and critics, followed by a several awards, allowing HINDI MEDIUM to organically make its way to be exhibited in China.

The Chinese authorities who choose their bouquet of films every year, have been so impressed with the content of HINDI MEDIUM that rather than the main poster, they opted for the teaser poster that had been designed by celebrated publicity designer, Rahul Nanda.

Producer Bhushan Kumar says, “There’s a unique twist in this tale. HINDI MEDIUM is content driven and even though Irrfan is an internationally recognised talent, the Chinese distribution body opted for our teaser concept which shows the feet of a man, one representing poverty and the other representing material wealth.”

The poster clearly reflects the disparities in society and as the film HINDI MEDIUM does, the image holds a mirror to our society where the ability to speak fluent English is ignorantly considered a yardstick to measure sophistication and elitism.

Producer Dinesh Vijan signs off, “This is exactly what made HINDI MEDIUM so significant. The idea that we give importance to material wealth and our social image over the value of humanness and love baffles me, but sadly it’s what drives most of the society and portraying this in a light yet meaningful form is what resonates with audiences universally.”

Here’s hoping HINDI MEDIUM enjoys the same love and adulation across our border.

Tiger Shroff is choreographer’s actor

Tiger Shroff is an "amazing performer" and is a choreographer's actor, says choreographer Rahul Shetty.

Shetty worked with Tiger on the song "Beat pe booty" and this year's track "Mundiyan" from the forthcoming film BAAGHI 2.

On collaborating with the BAAGHI actor, Shetty told IANS: "Tiger is a choreographer's actor. You can make him do anything. He will follow you and make your work look even more superior."

The audience loves Tiger's dancing skills. But what are his shortcomings?

"Yes, Tiger is an amazing performer. As far as his shortcomings are concerned, I know that he works really hard for everything, and that is how all his shortcomings become his power points," said the choreographer who has also worked with actors like Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan.

BAAGHI 2 is directed by Ahmed Khan, who is also a popular choreographer. Did he give suggestions to Shetty?

"Yes, he is the captain of the ship. He is an inspiration to me. So, it was like an examination for me to choreograph this song ('Mundiyan'). I tried my best to do justice to it," he said.

When he is not working on films, reality shows like "Nach Baliye" keep him busy.

"I am the child of reality shows. That is why I still choreograph reality shows and keep myself updated with the new styles and techniques. But yes, I have plans to do my own reality shows in future," said the choreographer, who became popular after participating in "Dance India Dance Doubles".

What about directing a dance film?

"I am just following in footsteps of my mentors, Ahmed Khan and Remo D'souza. So, I am going to direct a film in the near future for sure," said Shetty, who also acted in D'souza's 2013 film ABCD: AANY BODY CAN DANCE.
