Tochi Raina: Sufi music will never die

Singer Tochi Raina says that Sufi music can never die.

Tochi attended the music launch of his upcoming film NOTE PE CHOT AT 8/11 on Wednesday here.

The singer, best known for singing soulful songs, was asked whether he thinks Sufi music will die. He said: "Sufi music will never die. It has been there since ages. Sufi music is poetry, and poetry always remains in the heart of people."

"Sufi music is our culture and we have to preserve our tradition and culture. There is no harm in doing experiments. Eastern countries and western countries have always picked up things from each other.

"If you see western countries are not leaving their culture but they are taking something from our culture. On the other hand, we are leaving behind our culture and trying to adapt things from the West so, I think we have to blend both cultures to come out with some good music compositions," he added.

What kind of challenges did he face while composing songs for the film?

He said: "I don't think about challenges. I feel if you start to think about challenges then it prevents you to take up that work. Hence, I focus on action rather than giving so much of thought to it."

NOTE PE CHOT AT 8/11 revolves around how a common man loses his security of money, due to demonetisation.

Talking about the music of the film, he said: "We have composed two songs in NOTE PE CHOT… with the name of Neeru-Tochi Raina. The songs are ‘Tinka tinka' and ‘Mere dil ki'. We have tried to give a different kind of treatment to both the songs in terms of their arrangement."

The movie will release on March 9.

Gina Rodriguez suffers panic attacks

Actress Gina Rodriguez suffered from debilitating anxiety and panic attacks after taking too much medication for her ongoing struggle with Hashimoto's disease.

She was able to lower her dosage of Hashimoto's disease medication, and no longer battles the mental health conditions, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"To the core of my being, I know what it's like to feel like there is no way I can win this, so where do I even begin. (Hashimoto's) affects so many aspects of your life. I've had it for so many years … that rebellion of not taking care of myself can't exist anymore," she told Self magazine.

She added: "It is really important for us to be super self-aware. I wasn't banking on that. I wasn't like, 'Hey, yeah, let me get a disease that makes me have to be super aware'. I don't want to be super aware of myself all of the time."

The JANE THE VIRGIN star credits her beau Joe LoCicero with helping her manage her illness, which can also result in fluctuating weight for the star, meaning she has to watch her diet closely.

"(Mine and Joe's relationship is one of) respect and kindness, and generosity, and compromise, and sacrifice. (He) has really helped me have a healthier perspective on (weight), that stupid number that can destroy us and feel like it's equivalent to our self-worth. This love is so easy," she said.

SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY Movie Review: Mere Dost Ki Mangetar Ka Punchnama

0

Dost, Dosti or Woh.. playing Kho Kho with bromance and romance ‘tibaara’ (third time) Luv Ranjan’s kirtan again chants praises for brotherhood with same ‘boy’ bechara sentiments and alleged misogyny with a twist. Unfortunately, the idea which seems to be burning enough for some, has unfortunately resulted in a pea brained immature picture that could have been better as a web series or a series on television. Burned while performing the roast?.. kya dost.

Boys will be boys for sure but misogyny is not the prime issue here, even after Sweety (Nushrat Bharucha) declares that she is the ‘villain’. It’s the overwhelming fascination for the cliché belief that marriage/commitment is the end of the road/fun and things get serious.

Pick any rom com in Bollywood, the institution of marriage is teased for fun. Fine, but many a times, marriage is a beginning and brings in joy. Anyways, here the ‘boys’ in Luv Ranjan’s world get old but fail to grow up and repeatedly say I am not marrying for sex’.

Luv Ranjan with his writer Rahul Mody get more ambitious, after receiving a warm welcome from boys in their dressing rooms during PUNCHNAMA series, the writer duo gets into their houses and involves their families. Sonu (Kartik Aaryan) and Titu (Sunny Singh) are BFF who grew up together and their families are also a joint unit. Sonu is the big brother in the friendship and always poses as a savior of Titu. A depressed Titu is binging in kachories and ladoos, his girlfriend played by a single expression is upset over Titu trespassing over a social media app on her phone.

Like always, Sonu advises Titu to get rid of her and move on. Following Sonu’s advice, Titu decides to get married and then enters Sweety Sharma (Nushrat Bharucha), the charming sweety makes Titu fall head over heels for her but Sonu doubts the excess goodness in Sweety and a battle begins. Is Sweety a gold digger or Sonu is under wrong impression? We know who will win. It’s a Luv Ranjan’s film so boys won’t come of age and girls are evil and in due course they have literally graduated into villain like here.

Somewhere during the duration, I felt like Sonu may be Sweety’s mother-in-law in his previous birth. Jokes apart, the movie fails to poke much fun, with the same mindset, Luv Ranjan’s PUNCHNAMA series had amusing zingers but it was a ‘boys’ film but here things get serious as marriage is involved but the situations are so convenient, predictable and things get childish in between. Ironically, the supporting cast that includes a whiskey guzzling Ghasite (Alok Nath – a revelation for social media buffs who has tagged this veteran actor as ‘sanskari’ – pious man with all right virtues). He plays Titu’s grandfather and owner of a popular chain of sweets. His partner in crime is uncle played by Virendra Saxena. Both Aloknath and Virendra Saxena are more believable then the leads and they provide some genuine belly laughs.

The unstoppable enthusiasm of Kartik Aaryan and the radiant charm of Nushrat Bharucha fail to elevate this misguided and immature feature. The adorable innocence of Sunny Singh too fails to save this movie from echoing the same sentiment on bromance over romance with an added chorus of a family dressed for a medium budget Yash Chopra or Karan Johar wedding.

Technically sound with rich production values, the music is peppy – Bom Diggy Bom and Chhote Chhote Peg are making their way into the chartbusters. Other supporting cast like Deepika Amin, Ayesha Raza Mishra and Pawan Chopra are fine.

If you are least bothered whether Luv Ranjan has decided to care for females now after the amusing PUNCHNAMA series rant (the monologue), and care a damn on what the maker personally feels about marriage in particular. If you want some unabashed ‘boy’ fun in a movie that gets juvenile in due course then SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY might be your date though it’s not a ‘date’ movie.

Reportedly Luv Ranjan’s next is a ‘rom com’ starring Ajay Devgn and this makes me more concerned. And by the way, why the character played by Nushrat Bharucha declared herself as a villain..

Friday the 13th Ha ha.. here comes Friday the 23rd

0

Khee Khee.. He He.. well we all have heard of the ‘terror’fic Friday The 13th that brings chills to our spines and makes us hold our chins or hug our partners in fear depending on luck and ‘choice’. But this coming Friday the 23rd February 2018 is an altogether ‘laughable’ experience literally on screen.

The coming Friday we have four comedies releasing in different genres and different languages promising a unique Lol experience marked with choices.

A quirky rom com – SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY directed by PYAR KA PUNCHNAMA fame Luv Ranjan that brings its hit Jodi Kartik Aaryan and Nushrat Bharucha back with an extra twist added by Sunny Singh.

A ‘welcome’ spoof on awards – WELCOME TO NEW YORK a ‘3D’ comedy directed by Chakri Toleti, produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani that stars Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani. A ‘3D’ comedy?! That’s more interesting than those unwanted controversy regarding those singers, plus the movie is said to be a spoof on Bollywood awards..

A mad caper in Marathi LOOOSE CONTROL makes the list interesting by adding a regional flavor. Directed by Ajay Singh, the movie revolves around three engineering students and their crazy escapades starring Madhura Naik, Akshay Mhatre, Manmeet Pem, Shashikant Kerkar and others.

Last but not the least; call it the icing on the cake or the one which makes this Friday laughter haunt with an international echo giving it a universal chorus is the recent BAFTA 2018 topper THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI starring Frances McDormand and helmed by Martin McDonagh. This extraordinary story of rage laced with dark humour gives this Friday the rare option of having something for the connoisseurs of art and cinema in India.

Who wins the race at the box office we don,t know but certainly the coming Friday the 232rd of February 2018 will be remembered for bringing smiles in different ways with four comedies releasing on the same day. We remember the franchise FRIDAY THE 13 for its creepy thrills, in all probability somewhere Friday The 23rd will be remembered for giving some variety of amusing pills.
