Justin Timberlake to headline BRIT Awards

0

Singer Justin Timberlake will next month headline the BRIT Awards, 15 years after the moment he performed a duet with Kylie Minogue on the stage.

Timberlake, a former *NSYNC singer, had famously felt Minogue's derriere on stage as they sang the latter's "Rapture".

The ceremony, on February 21, will be one of his two high-profile gigs this year, along with the Super Bowl half-time performance in the US, ahead of the release of his album Man Of The Woods, reports The Sun.

"Justin went down in Brits folklore after his duet with Kylie in 2003 so he will always be synonymous with the Brits. He will be performing alone this time," a source said.

The BRIT Awards will be aired in India on Vh1 on February 26.

Oscar winning-actor Tom Hanks is set to play late TV personality Fred Rogers in the biopic YOU ARE MY FRIEND.

The film has been acquired by TriStar Pictures, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

Director Marielle Heller will helm from a screenplay by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

The feature, set to begin production in September, is inspired by a real-life friendship between Rogers and award-winning journalist Tom Junod. The cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved TV icon Mr. Rogers and finds his perspective on life transformed.

Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf will produce via their Big Beach Films, along with Youree Henley. Fitzerman-Blue and Harpster will executive produce alongside Big Beach's Leah Holzer.

Hannah Minghella and Shary Shirazi will oversee the project for TriStar.

Rogers, the star of the long-running children's TV series "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood", was the subject of the documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" that premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival. He died in 2003.

Dinesh Vijan: Audience willing to see great films

0

Filmmaker Dinesh Vijan, who is busy with horror-comedy film STREE, says the audience is willing to see great films over merely picturesque locations.

Asked if Bollywood is now focussing on content-driven films than just entertainers, Vijan told IANS: "I believe the audience's thinking has changed and I think we need to cater to that. I feel a good film always works.

"It was a phase… Like I said, it is a new emerging India. So, we need to cater to that and obviously with the digital advent that has happened, they are not willing to see nicer locations but are willing to see a great film."

Vijan said the industry needs to "pull up our game and work that much harder to give that kind of content".

Directed by Amar Kaushik, STREE, also stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. It is being backed by Maddock Films, jointly produced by Vijan and Raj and DK.

The film is based on an urban legend set in a small village named Chanderi in Bhopal and music-composer duo Sachin-Jigar have scored the album.

Kartik Aaryan: Don’t let box office business affect me

0

Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan, whose forthcoming film is SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY, says he believes in giving his best to every movie and does not dwell over the box office result of his projects.

Kartik's last release GUEST IIN LONDON failed at the box office.

Asked if such results affect his mind, Kartik told IANS: "I have learnt to deal with the box office result. Whatever happened to any film, thankfully people always appreciated my performance. Since in the end, as an actor, I cannot do much apart from giving my best on camera, I won't let myself be affected by the business of cinema.

"There are films that look very interesting when on paper, but things change while shooting. At times, things changed during post-production and I see no reason to blame anything on anyone. It is a collaborative effort. If it failed, we should face it."

The actor is known best for the PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA series.

He has tried his hand at different genres of films, but he is vividly remembered by the audience for his monologue in PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA.

Does he find it difficult to prove his versatility as an actor?

"I know I get this many times, but the fact is I have always tried to prove my versatility from the given choice. Look, people remember an actor from hit films. Since two of my films of PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA series worked, people think I am good in such roles."

The actor also featured in films like AAKASH VANI and KAANCHI: THE UNBREAKABLE.

"My role was very different in those films, but none of them worked at the box office, therefore people cannot recall me in them. And I know like many actors, even I am also looking for a good script, but at times my choice might not match up to the expectation of the audience. I think there is no foolproof plan," said Kartik.

Any choice that he regretted later?

"No, I do not regret any of my choices because for that moment, I felt I was right. Without taking the name, I want to share that I was offered a film. I refused to do it for whatever reason, but later that went on to become a super hit. But no, I have no regret on that… We are destined to get things."

Directed by Luv Ranjan, SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY will release on February 23.
