Suchitra Krishnamoorthi criticises Swara’s opinion on PADMAAVAT

0

Suchitra Krishnamoorthi criticised Swara Bhaskar for saying that by the end of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's PADMAAVAT she "felt like a vagina". The singer questioned Swara's opinion pointing out that the actress essayed an "erotic dancer/prostitute" in films in the past.

Swara, who has been vocal about several issues and has worked with Bhansali in GUZAARISH, voiced her opinion via an open letter calling out the filmmaker for glorifying Sati and Jauhar in his film and said that she felt reduced to a vagina by the end of it.

Krishnamoorthi slammed the actress on Twitter.

On Sunday, she tweeted: "Funny that an actress who can play an erotic dancer/prostitute with such elan should feel like a vagina after watching a story of a pious queen. What standards are these …tch tch (sic)."

Swara however wrote back to Krishnamoorthi saying: "Funny that people cannot get over the fact that a woman said Vagina! Funny that in a 2440 word article making fairly comprehensible arguments they only remember the word Vagina So… Vagina vagina vagina vagina vagina vagina..vagina vagina VAGINA!"

Before the spat between the ladies began, Krsihnamoorthi had also tweeted that "arent' these feminist debates on 'Padmaavat' rather dumb? It's a story ladies – not an advocacy of Jauhar for God's sake. Find another battle for your cause – a real one at all. Not historical fiction."

"Padmaavat", which has been released after a gruelling battle against members of fringe groups who were protesting the depiction of Rajputs in the film, is being criticised by a number of activists and individuals for glorifying and making the film as a tribute to Rajput pride, perhaps even to a fault.

The film which released on January 25, features actress Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji.

Actors Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad and Anupriya Goenka feature in supporting roles.

Parineeti Chopra: The kind of films I am signing now are amazing

Actor Parineeti Chopra, who last appeared in GOLMAAL AGAIN, says that now she is signing amazing films and all this happened after the stupendous success of GOLMAAL AGAIN.

Parineeti turned up in a Gen-Z yellow outfit on Sunday at the launch of the Grazia India magazine's February issue.

During media interaction when asked about joining the 200 crore club with GOLMAAL AGAIN, Parineeti said: "It has been great as GOLMAAL AGAIN became the biggest hit of last year. It joined 200 crore club."

"I really wanted to do a film to join 100 crore club but it went just double so I am very happy. The kind of films I am signing now are amazing. My brand endorsements and other things are even better," she added.

The actress shed quite a lot of weight after her initial films and so when asked if directors and producers are changing their perspective towards her after the weight loss, she said, "I think yes, the perspective did change, but not necessarily in the typical way."

"When you're in a particular shape, people have very particular expectations from you in terms of role playing. But when you give them a shock like that, they saw me in a different way and this is the reason I got 'Golmaal Again' because the role required a lot of action in the film. I don't think I would have gotten the role if I wasn't fit."

The ISHAQZAADE actress also added that shedding weight or changing body type for an actress is a good thing as it allows her freedom to play different roles.

"It will be limiting for an actress because we will not be able to do all kinds of films. If we want to do different kinds of role such as action or playing a drug addict, I can't be overweight," said Parineeti.

She will next be seen sharing screen space with Arjun Kapoor in SANDEEP AUR PINKY FARAAR, which is directed by Dibakar Banerjee.

The film is scheduled to release on August 3.

Rohit Shetty: Let PADMAAVAT breathe for God’s sake

Director Rohit Shetty says let Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial PADMAAVAT breathe for God's sake.

On Sunday, actor Swara Bhaskar called Bhansali out for the glorification of sati and jauhar in his film in an open letter concluding that the film reduces women to "talking about vaginas".

Reacting to the letter on the sidelines of Radio Mirchi Awards on Sunday, Rohit said: "I'd like to request everyone that after so much troubles and struggles the film PADMAAVAT has released, please let it run in peace."

"It is our film, so if I say something or someone else says something, we would be trying to create more trouble for our film.

"Film has released and let the audience watch it, The film is doing phenomenal business after all the hassle and trouble the entire production has faced especially Sanjay Leela (Bhansali), Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and TV 18, let their movie run in peace."

"Now if we try and say something and create problem then what would be the point. Let the film breath now, for God's sake," he added.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali also spoke about the letter, which according to him is nothing more than "each to his own" kind of deal.

"I haven't read the letter of Swara to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but I know about it. See when delay happens in the film, it doesn't feel right. There is nothing in PADMAAVAT which requires any protest but each to his own," he said.

OH ‘Shit’ Sid.. Oh Shit

0

My Dear Sidharth Malhotra

Oh Shit.. Oh ‘Shit’.. I don't want to ‘piss’ you off but your recent ‘toilet’ katha (latrine comment) while trying to speak Bhojpuri to promote AIYAARY at Salman Khan hosted Bigg Boss 11 show is disgustingly hard to digest.

Oh Dear, the STUDENT OF THE YEAR sensation of 2012 is still a temptation especially amongst the female folks but both sadly and shockingly, the ‘student’ has still to learn the basic art of keeping the 'mass' audience happy and play to the gallery.

Look at the irony, even after having a renowned ‘Bihari’ actor like Manoj Bajpayee you couldn’t speak a line in ‘Bhojpuri’ properly. Anyways, the language which gave you a “latrine wali feeling’ while speaking is an Indo-Aryan language spoken chiefly in eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Bihar, and in extreme northwestern part of Jharkhand in India. Internationally Bhojpuri is a recognized language in Nepal, Guyana, Suriname, and Mauritius.

Was the simple, light, nutritious and delicious ‘Litti Chokha’ (a famous dish in Bihar) too heavy for the Delhi boy born on rich and heavy ‘parathas’ and dal makhani that gave you such a feeling? See what your comment has done, it recollected Manoj Bajpayee as a ‘Bihari’ and you as a Punjabi from Delhi. So unfortunate.

You came on the show with a good intention to promote your upcoming movie and this unfortunate incident happened and I believe it’s not ‘scripted’ the way reality shows are. Thanks to the PADMAAVAT storm at that time, your ‘loose’ statement failed to get the ‘motion’ it required and now the miss call is getting answered with the youth taking to the streets shouting slogans against you and threatening to lodge FIRs all across the country.

However the intervention of Manoj Bajpayee has saved you from the legal hassle as reportedly Bhojpuri actor turned politician Manoj Tiwari has agreed to stop his supporters from taking legal action.

But what about the feelings of millions voiced by actress Neetu Chandra in her reaction. The actress slammed you on social media for disrespecting the language and wrote "So disappointed @S1dharthM some1who is so fortunate 2 work wd d best. Who despite being an outsider has made a name 4 himself,4 U 2 use ur words so loosely.2 disrespect #Bhojpuri on national TV. SHOCKED! How on earth does speaking in #Bhojpuri gives u a latrine feeling.Shame on U."

It seems that you have realized your mistake and posted on your social media handle by smartly playing the innocence card and saying, “ I recently tried speaking a new language while I was on a TV show. In the process if I inadvertently hurt anyone's feelings or sentiments, I apologize and assure you that no disrespect was meant in any way."

How naïve of you not to hear what you are speaking and what it means..

Anyways, more of hurting the sentiments of the people speaking Bhojpuri, it’s a joke that you made on yourself is more alarming and what the hell was Bajpayee, Salman, Rakul and channel bosses doing when the incident happened.

Unsolicited suggestion as an Indian to you Sidharth Malhotra aka Sid. WAKE UP SID and learn to respect languages and remove yourself from this self created shit.

Clue – you can take help from your fellow student and your ‘favourite’ Alia Bhatt who played a ‘Bihari’ labour in UDTA PUNJAB.

From the first row…

0

How many times does a situation arise that one is compelled to watch a story. A friend of mine happened to refer me about such a compelling story and for the past 3-4 days I had been trying various plexes in my vicinity that could offer me a decent seat. But, to my surprise, I could not find one in this long weekend period. Finally, I got to experience this piece of narrative from the first row and I am not complaining.

Thank you Mr Dipesh Shah for (writing, directing & producing) making this movie. Chal Man Jeetva Jaiye is about a significant business family, which finds itself at the crossroads in a circumstance, where one wrong decision could end up costing them the future; theirs as well as hundreds of others. Through a host of interesting characters, the narrative gives an insight into what it takes to be resilient in the face of adversity. The story is a lesson in general from a business perspective and otherwise too. But it is the climax scene of the movie that raises a curiosity similar to that of ‘Kattappa’. Here, who amongst the two characters Viren and Dev will become victorious and how; when it was both of them who won this battle together. Interestingly if one wants to decode the film’s title with the last scene and the curiosity that it builds, the title can be read in two ways. ‘Chal, Man Jeetva Jaiye’ would mean one character’s point of view towards life of being victorious by winning others. Whereas if one reads ‘Chal Man, Jeetva Jaiye’ would probably mean the other character’s aim to convince one’s mind and march towards victory.

The narrative is full of dialogues and peeps into the human psychology in a given situation. It delves into not just how the different characters deal with the situation but also how one must understand what others are thinking in that situation and why. It also tries to explain with examples of different people taking different routes to tackle the problem and their ultimate outcomes. Though what is shown is nothing new in terms of philosophy, principles, etc. but what is important here is the presentation. Like most stories are stories of victory of good over evil, here it is the victory of principles presented through thought provoking dialogues between the various family members in a single room sans any typical masala. And we do not get this kind of cinema very often.

I am pretty sure that this film might inspire Bollywood filmmakers to buy its (dubbing, remake)rights and try to milk it but a simple question still remains that despite having limited resources if regional filmmakers can deliver a simple message in such an impactful way then what stops Bollywood from thinking original engrossing cinema? We so busy in making potboilers or masala films stuffed with senseless dialogues, unnecessary glamour, over the top action? When are we going to realize that entertainment doesn’t necessarily have to be mindless!

Anyways don’t miss the opportunity of being amazed by an engaging narrative. Go and watch this film and you can thank us later.

Manish Tewari: CBFC should be abolished

0

Former Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Sunday said the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) must be scrapped.

"In my respectful opinion, Prasoon Joshi should have attended Jaipur Lit Fest. For tyranny to triumph, all that good men have to do is nothing. I believe CBFC should be abolished. As I&B Ministry appointed Mudgal Committee to that end. Till CBFC exists, chief and I&B Ministry should defend its remit," Tewari tweeted.

The Congress leader made the comment in context of CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi's decision to skip the ongoing Zee Jaipur Literature Festival in the wake of repeated threats to him by the Shri Rajput Karni Sena over certification of PADMAAVAT.

Joshi, in an earlier statement, said on PADMAAVAT: "I did my job and sincerely took a sensitive and balanced call. As I have said earlier, certification was done with due processes, incorporating valid suggestions whilst staying mindful to the concerns of the society as well as to the canvas of cinema."

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's PADMAAVAT has been in the news over a long-standing row, due to which it did not release in a few states despite the Supreme Court's decision green-signalling an all-India release.
