Mirai, a film that weaves together mythology and contemporary storytelling, has been released in theatres this week. Director Karthik’s film is spread across two different timelines and offers the audience an interesting story along with a gorgeous visual experience. Mirai is a Telugu fantasy action-adventure film written and directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni. The film stars Teja Sajja, Manchu Manoj, Rithika Nayak, Shriya Saran, Jagapathi Babu and Jayaram in the lead roles.

Story

The film begins with Emperor Ashoka, who is plagued by guilt and remorse despite winning the war. In search of salvation, he creates nine sacred texts, which contain immense power and knowledge. If someone acquires these nine texts, he will become a god or immortal.

These texts were protected for centuries, but a crisis arises when the ambitious Mahabir Lama, played by Manoj Manchu, wants to acquire them and gain god-like power.

Vedha stands against Lama’s intentions. Vedha is played by Teja Sajja. He is not only the protector of humanity, but he also has his own emotional journey. Why did his mother Ambika, Shriya Saran, abandon him in childhood? And then how does Vibha, Ritika Nayak, inspire him to accept his responsibility? The answers to these questions give more depth to the film.

Writing and Direction

Karthik Ghattamneni has written and directed the film Mirai. Its story is brilliant and the screenplay is balanced which keeps the audience constantly engaged. The first part is especially excellent in which the story is told in a light-hearted or entertaining way. The mixture of action, mythological elements and emotional drama in the film Mirai makes it special. The background score is refreshing and impressive, which gives height to every important scene. The way the mythological story is told brings a smile on the face of the audience.

The level of VFX is excellent in most places, although it looks a bit weak in some scenes. The second half of the film, especially near the climax, seems a bit dragged which could have been made faster, but still it does not reduce the cinematic experience.

Acting

Teja Sajja has handled the film well and has lived the character of Vedha with depth. Manoj Manchu definitely seems ambitious in his role, but could not show the required intensity as a villain everywhere. Ritika Nayak impresses with her simplicity and charm, while Shriya Saran has given emotional strength to the role of the mother.

The presence of senior actors like Jayaram and Jagapathi Babu makes the film stronger.

Overall

Overall, the film Mirai is a successful amalgamation of mythology and modern cinema or rather say that there is a great jugalbandi of religion and entertainment in the film Mirai. Strong story, brilliant screenplay, and strong performances make it special. 3.5 stars for the film.
