Fahadh Faasil didn’t chase a Tom Cruise Hollywood film. Here’s why

Fahadh Faasil chose not to pursue a reported Hollywood opportunity with Tom Cruise, staying true to his principles and faith in Malayalam cinema.

The trailer of Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming Hollywood film Digger, led by Tom Cruise, has sparked fresh discussion around an old interview of Fahadh Faasil. While several reports have linked the Malayalam star’s comments to the film, there has been no official confirmation from either Fahadh or the makers that Digger was the project he had once been considered for.

What is clear, however, is that Fahadh did not believe in pursuing a Hollywood opportunity at any cost. Speaking about the experience last year, the actor revealed that he was asked to spend three to four months in the United States to work on his accent. Since the makers were not willing to cover those expenses, he decided against taking the project forward. Fahadh candidly admitted that the commercial aspects did not work for him and, more importantly, he did not feel strongly enough about the role to go through such an extensive process.

The actor also recalled having a video call with the filmmaker and acknowledged that it is possible both sides realised he was not the right fit for the part. According to Fahadh, such situations are a normal part of an actor’s journey and he has missed out on several projects after similar meetings.

Perhaps the most striking part of Fahadh’s statement was his unwavering faith in Malayalam cinema. He said that every major milestone in his career has come from the Malayalam film industry and that if another defining moment is to happen, he would want it to come from there as well. He added that he does not see himself leaving Kerala in pursuit of international projects unless the opportunity truly offers something extraordinary.

At a time when many actors view Hollywood as the ultimate career milestone, Fahadh’s approach reflects a different mindset. Rather than rushing towards the opportunity of sharing screen space with a global superstar like Tom Cruise, he chose to stay true to what made professional and personal sense for him. It is a decision that underlines his confidence in his craft and his belief that meaningful work matters more than the size of the platform.
