Sanju Surendran’s feature film project Fishers of Men has been officially shortlisted for the 24th edition of the Hong Kong–Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF24), selected under the HAF In-Development Projects (IDP) category. The selection marks a key international milestone for the project, which first gained industry visibility at Waves Film Bazaar 2024.
At Waves Film Bazaar 2024, Fishers of Men was showcased in the Co-Production Market, where it was recognized for both its artistic ambition and commercial viability. The project received a cash grant of USD 5,000, along with mentorship support, helping advance its development and positioning it for global co-production opportunities. The Bazaar served as the project’s launchpad, connecting Indian storytelling talent with international decision-makers and financiers.
Following its HAF24 selection, Fishers of Men will now be presented at the HKIFF Industry Project Market 2026, taking place from 17 to 19 March 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The market runs alongside the 30th Hong Kong FILMART and is regarded as one of Asia’s leading platforms for film financing, co-production networking, and project development. Participation in the forum will enable the project to pitch to global investors, distributors, and production partners.
The selection underlines growing international attention toward Indian independent cinema and highlights the effectiveness of domestic film markets in preparing projects for global exposure. Industry observers note that initiatives such as Waves Film Bazaar have increasingly become stepping stones for Indian projects entering prominent international co-production and financing forums.
The progress of Fishers of Men from a national co-production platform to a major Asian financing forum reflects sustained efforts by India’s film development ecosystem to promote cross-border collaboration. With its upcoming presence at HKIFF Industry Market 2026, the project is expected to seek international partnerships to move toward full-scale production.
Further details regarding casting, production timelines, and financing structure are expected to be announced as the project advances through the co-production market circuit.
