The teaser for RJ Balaji’s much-anticipated film Karuppu was unveiled on Suriya’s birthday, July 23, and it has set the internet ablaze. Starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles, the film promises a dark, action-packed narrative with a powerful duality at its core.
Suriya in Two Shades: Lawyer by Day, Avenger by Night?
The teaser begins with an ominous voiceover that establishes the mood: the god in question is not a peaceful, forgiving one, but one revered with chillies, a representative of fire, passion, and justice. Suriya first appears in two different avatars. One is Saravanan, a peaceful and collected lawyer in white, who suggests he has another name. The first is a angry, black-suited man with an aruval/koduval (traditional sickle sword) dipped in blood and vengeance.
Whether these two are the same individual with a double life or completely different characters remains unclear, fueling curiosity.
A Nod to Ghajini and Electrifying Fan Response
The teaser had a sly but strong hint of Suriya’s most remembered 2005 movie Ghajini, especially the track “Oru Maalai”, which put the fans in a nostalgic overdrive. Twitter went wild with responses. One of them called the teaser “Raw, intense, and giving major chills!” and another labeled it as “hot, spicy, and straight out of the fire.”

Karuppu is written and directed by RJ Balaji, with a story written by Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan, and Karan Aravind Kumar. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, music is given by Sai Abhyankar. Swasika, Indrans, Yogi Babu, Sshivada, Natty Subramaniam, and Supreeth Reddy play the lead roles.
