For over two and a half decades, CID wasn’t just a television show, it was a part of India’s cultural fabric. A staple of family evenings, weekend marathons, and late-night reruns, it offered not only crime-solving thrills but a sense of comfort and consistency. And at the center of it all stood ACP Pradyuman, a figure of calm authority, unwavering morality, and quiet strength.

In a recent episode of CID, the legendary cop was seemingly caught in a fatal explosion. There was no final moment, no conclusive scene, just a presumed end, followed by a stark tribute on Sony TV’s social media: “In loving memory of ACP Pradyuman… End of an Era (1998–2025)”.
But what should have been a moment of respectful farewell has turned into a storm of disappointment and heartbreak, especially among fans who have remained loyal for decades. Across platforms, one emotion dominates: dissatisfaction. Because this wasn’t just any character. This was the character.
ACP Pradyuman, played by Shivaji Satam, wasn’t just the lead; he was the essence of CID. His sharp mind, iconic catchphrases, and stoic leadership became synonymous with the show itself. For 25 years, he was the anchor that held everything together. His presence lent the series a credibility and emotional weight that no twist or subplot could match.
Across social media, reactions have ranged from sorrow to outrage. Viewers have voiced their displeasure not only with the decision to write off the character, but with the way it was done, abrupt, impersonal, and lacking in the dignity Pradyuman had always stood for.

Many are finding it difficult to accept this exit, especially given the emotional resurgence the show was experiencing. With the recent return of the classic team, Pradyuman, Daya, and Abhijeet, CID was reclaiming its space in the hearts of long-time fans. It felt like a reunion, a homecoming. The sudden loss of the central figure has broken that emotional momentum.

In an interview with ETimes, Shivaji Satam addressed the rumours surrounding ACP Pradyuman’s death. He clarified that he is currently on a break and has not been informed about the permanent end of his character.
“I have no clue about this. I have taken a break for some time and the makers know what lies ahead in the show. I have learnt to take everything in my stride, and if my track is over, I am okay with it. However, I have not been told whether my track is over or not,” he said.
He added that he is currently not shooting for the show and is planning to go on a holiday in May to spend time with his son, who is visiting from abroad. Reflecting on his journey, Satam said: “I have enjoyed playing ACP for 22 years in the earlier season. It has been a great journey. The show has given me a lot. As of now, I am just taking a break and going to enjoy my life. I have worked hard and everyone deserves a break. Whether my track will be revived or not is something the makers know well.”
The ambiguous end of ACP Pradyuman has left a bitter aftertaste, not because fans can’t accept change, but because they expected reverence for a character who meant so much to so many. While Shivaji Satam’s desire to take a break is entirely valid and well-deserved after decades of dedication, the responsibility of honoring a legacy lies with the storytellers

Whether this truly marks the end or just a pause in his journey, one thing is certain: for millions of Indians, ACP Pradyuman was not just fiction; he was a memory, a symbol, a part of life. And memories, unlike shows, don’t fade so easily.
