Ekta Kapoor has issued an official statement distancing herself from ALTT, following the Indian government’s decision to block 25 OTT platforms for hosting obscene and vulgar content. Platforms such as ULLU, ALTT, Desiflix, and others have been accused of violating content regulations under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the IT Rules, 2021.
Ekta Clarifies She Has No Ties to ALTT Since 2021
Taking to Instagram, Ekta Kapoor stated that neither she nor her mother, Shobha Kapoor, has been associated with ALTT since June 2021. She emphasized that “Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization,” and noted that ALTT has been operated by the company itself since June 20, 2025, following the approved amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd.
In her statement, she said, “Contrary to media reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied.” She also reiterated that Balaji Telefilms operates within the framework of the law and upholds corporate governance standards.
Government Crackdown on Obscene Content
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with other ministries and regulatory bodies, has ordered the blocking of 25 OTT platforms. These platforms were found to contain content with excessive sexual innuendos and explicit scenes lacking meaningful context or storyline. Complaints were received from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the general public.
Despite warnings issued in 2023, many of these platforms continued to publish objectionable content. Some even resurfaced under new domains after earlier bans. Notifications have now been sent to intermediaries to ensure complete access to these platforms is disabled.
