Bigg Boss 18 fame and actor Chum Darang has voiced strong support for the Northeastern states following the backlash after businessman Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder in Meghalaya. The incident, which took place during his honeymoon with his wife Sonam near the scenic Weisawdong Falls in Sohra (Cherrapunji), has drawn nationwide attention. After going missing on May 23, Raja’s body was found on June 2 in a deep gorge, raising suspicions due to Sonam’s disappearance and lack of a missing report.
Chum Darang Speaks Out Against Hate
Reacting on Instagram, Chum expressed her heartbreak over the case, saying, “This Raja Raghuvanshi case had me shook beyond words.” She highlighted her shock that Raja’s own wife was allegedly behind the murder. More importantly, Chum condemned the surge of hate being directed at locals in Meghalaya and the Northeast as a whole. “I am not saying the NE states are crime-free, but blaming the people directly is not right,” she wrote, adding, “My condolences.”
Impact on Tourism and Public Sentiment
The incident has sparked fears and anger across the country, causing numerous travel agencies to report cancellations to Meghalaya, affecting its tourism sector. Chum’s message served as a reminder not to generalize or hold an entire region accountable for an individual’s crime.

Kangana Ranaut Reacts Strongly
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut also weighed in, calling the murder “absurd and heinous.” She criticized the alleged actions of Sonam, noting how dangerous unthinking individuals can be, saying, “Be aware, very aware of dumbness around you.”
The case continues to unfold, with Meghalaya Police having arrested Sonam and three accomplices involved in the planned murder.
