Sanjeeda Sheikh Opens Up About Harassment Incident

Sanjeeda Sheikh has had an eventful start to the year with two major releases. She kicked off with the film “Fighter,” released in January, where she starred alongside Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor.

Her latest project, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, began streaming on Netflix on May 1. The series features a star-studded cast including Manisha Koirala, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Taha Shah. Sanjeeda’s portrayal of Waheeda received widespread acclaim. The series’ success led to the announcement of a second season, heightening audience anticipation.

In a recent interview, Sanjeeda shared a disturbing incident that occurred at a nightclub. She recounted being harassed by a woman who randomly touched her chest and walked away without explanation.

“I remember one incident very vaguely but it was by a woman. I was in a nightclub. One woman was passing by and she just touched my breast and she left. I was kind of taken aback, like what just happened. We hear men smack you on the back and they misbehave, ladkiyaan koi kum nahi hai,” Sanjeeda said.

The actress emphasized that inappropriate behavior is not tied to gender but to the individual’s choice to engage in such actions. She stated, “If you are headed on the wrong path, you are going on it regardless. It has nothing to do with men or women, whatever is wrong is wrong. If a woman has wronged you, tell her. Because I think playing the victimhood card is very unattractive.”

Sanjeeda’s candidness about her experience sheds light on the broader issue of harassment, urging accountability irrespective of gender. Her resilience and willingness to speak out serve as an inspiration, highlighting the importance of addressing inappropriate behavior directly.
