So this ‘Udaan’ of thought (seed, idea) is inspired from that bhagoda mahaan Vijay Vittal Mallya ( pura naam)!!? While this phenomenon in Akarsh Khurana helmed ‘stoner’ flick HIGH JACK may induce/irritate someone to order a ‘roll’, the movie starring Sumeet Vyas, Sarthak Kakar, Kumud Mishra, & Mantra Mugdh fails to fly high in its genre.
The search for a good hallucination (read flick) after GO GOA GONE in the stoner genre continues. Akarsh Khurana who wrote KITES, KRRISH3 etc tries his hand in the lesser known and understood stoner genre and with the help of writer Adhir Bhatt and churns this gatha (story). A wannabe DJ (Sumeet Vyas) who gets cheated in Goa during the New Year, lands himself in a flight from Goa to Delhi which gets hijacked by a bunch of ordinary looking people like you and me headed by Vinit (Mantra). Alas ! our NEERJA aka Sonam Kapoor who is now Mrs Ahuja, is in Cannes flashing her smiles and wardrobes. So the plane is left at the mercy of this nervous DJ who in mid–air gets high on drugs and manages to drug the other passengers too. The co-passengers include a provoking teenager, a cringing old man played by Kumud Mishra and a cricketer who is facing charges of being a traitor. However, the team of men who have hijacked the plane are no evil minded individuals, in fact they are the suffering employees of that same airline which is carrying this passengers. The airline has not paid salaries for six months and is declared bankrupt. What happens next is a jumble of bizarre sequence and lame chain of events that fail to excite.
The idea might be to make a sly comment on the social and economic situation prevailing in our country but the gags aren’t there to push the idea forward. The satire doesn’t work, the one liners fail, the stoner feeling is half baked, the situations, humour seems forced.
Capable actors like Sumeet Vyas, Mantra Kumud Mishra don,t get enough scope and in one scene Mantra expresses the feelings of the audience which goes like, “ Tere character mein koi graph nahi hai kya’( Is there any graph in your character)
The promos does gave a dope of hope that something interesting in the stoner genre is coming up and the music by Nucleya did stayed loyal to the feel of such genre but rest is disappointing.
HIGH JACK is a story of a Jack who desires to give a sarcastic ‘kick’ to the prevailing situation in our nation but he is too juvenile in knowing how to ‘roll’ such ‘joints.
