It has become a standard expectation for audiences when a blockbuster film gets a sequel: that the lead of the original would return to keep the franchise alive. That’s exactly what happened when Kartik Aaryan stepped into Akshay Kumar’s shoes in the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, the sequel to Bhool Bhulaiyaa, in 2022.
While some fans liked the new direction, others missed Akshay and despite mixed reviews, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 became a huge success. Fans were again expecting Akshay in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 but that too didn’t happen. Akshay Kumar finally spoke about why he left the franchise.

During the promotional campaign for his upcoming film Sky Force, Akshay was asked about his absence from the sequels. When a fan mentioned they didn’t watch the films without him, Akshay humorously responded, “Beta, mujhe nikaal diya tha. (I was removed). That’s it.” His candid reply quickly went viral, sparking both amusement and disappointment among fans. One Reddit user noted, “The way he replied ‘beta’ was funny—no wonder Kartik Aaryan tries to copy his style but fails.” Another fan expressed sorrow, stating, “Ouch, that ‘that’s it’ kinda hit hard.”
Still, some fans hope for the best. One quipped, “Akshay, it’s alright, Bhoot Bangla will be the official sequel in our eyes.” Post Sky Force, Akshay will be seen in Bhooth Bangla, the horror-comedy which will again reunite him with director Priyadarshan, who has also directed the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The fans are already waiting for that, hoping that their expectations would come to a logical end.
