Dharmendra’s shocking parenting method! Esha Deol reveals how her dad threw her into a tubewell at 11

Esha Deol, the daughter of legendary actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini, is all set to make her big-screen comeback with Tumko Meri Kasam. Directed by Vikram Bhatt, who had earlier worked with her on Ankahee (2006), this film is slated to release in cinemas on March 21, marking her return after a decade-long hiatus. Esha has often spoken about her passion for acting, despite her father’s initial disapproval of her career choice. She shared how her father, Dharmendra, was a tough but loving parent, often pushing her to face challenges head-on.

A Tough Lesson in Swimming from Dharmendra

In a recent interview with News18, Esha recalled a particularly memorable moment from her childhood, which exemplified her father’s tough love. She shared how she didn’t know how to swim at the age of 11, which was a point of concern for her father. According to Esha, during a trip to their farmhouse, Dharmendra found out that she still hadn’t learned swimming and decided to teach her in a rather unconventional manner. He picked her up and threw her into a tubewell, saying, “You still haven’t learnt swimming?” As Esha struggled, she began to float and eventually learned to swim on her own. She described the experience as a life lesson in resilience and how it shaped her growing up.

Nostalgic Memories of Growing Up with Star Kids

Esha also reminisced about her childhood days spent at the Sun-n-Sand Hotel in Mumbai, a popular spot for star kids in the 1980s. She fondly recalled how she, along with Luv and Kush Sinha (children of Shatrughan Sinha), Sonakshi Sinha, and the Kapoor sisters Sonam and Rhea, would enjoy swimming, followed by cold coffee milkshakes and French fries. Esha noted that the star kids were all of the same age, making for a fun and close-knit group as they grew up together in the bustling Juhu neighborhood. This camaraderie and the simple pleasures of those days were fondly remembered by Esha.

A Step Back and a Return to Acting

Esha made her acting debut in 2002 with Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe and later appeared in films like Yuva (2004), Dhoom (2004), and No Entry (2005). She took a step back from acting after her marriage to Bharat Takhtani in 2012. They have two daughters, Radhya and Miraya. After a decade-long break from films, Esha is now set to return as a lawyer in Tumko Meri Kasam. This marks a new chapter in her career, and her fans are eagerly awaiting her on-screen return.
