Helmed by AR Murugadoss and bankrolled by Salman Khan Films and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Sikandar was in high hopes considering its mass appeal and the fact that Salman Khan starred in the title role. The mass action drama starring Salman Khan as a larger-than-life hero who battles for justice has Rashmika Mandanna playing a significant role. In spite of the star cast and action-packed sequences, the box office performance of the film has been disappointing, especially as it enters its fifth day of release.
Morning Trends Suggest Continued Decline
Having finished its first four days, Sikandar has not managed to show an improvement in its box office performance, with morning trends on Day 5 indicating a further decline in business. The movie, which opened well over the holiday weekend, has been unable to keep up the pace. On Thursday morning, the movie is likely to see another decline in its revenues, marking a disappointing continuation after the long weekend. Although the film received a respectable opening, Rs 79.5 crore received in its opening four days, the absence of word-of-mouth and mixed responses has affected the capacity of the film to capitalize on the opening buzz.
Underwhelming Performance for a Salman Khan Film
In spite of the high hopes pinned on Sikandar, the box office collection of the film is not quite meeting the benchmark that one would expect from a Salman Khan film. The movie, which was released on Sunday, was set to set new benchmarks and go past the Rs 100 crore mark within the first week easily. It now seems doubtful whether Sikandar will reach the Rs 100 crore mark by the end of the first week, which represents an underwhelming performance by a film of this magnitude.
The poor-to-mixed reception of the film, especially in terms of its poor narrative, has damaged its commercial potential. Although the action scenes and Salman Khan’s presence on screen were supposed to drive the film, Sikandar has not been able to make the same impression as his past blockbusters. The inability of the movie to take advantage of the holiday weekend indicates that the audience was not as smitten with the storyline or execution.
Future Prospects
With the first week nearly gone, Sikandar will now have to look towards its second weekend for any possibility of regaining its pace. For the film to leave an abiding impression in Salman Khan’s career, it would have to demonstrate signs of improvement over the weekend. To date, though, it seems that Sikandar will fail to meet expectations, making the fans and producers wait for things to get better in the coming days.
Sikandar in Cinemas
Albeit the lukewarm reception, Sikandar continues to play in cinemas nationwide. If you are a fan of Salman Khan, it is still playing in cinemas around you. Have you already reserved your tickets?
