Box Office Bomb: Nithiin and Sreeleela’s Robinhood flops in North America – The numbers are shocking

Telugu film has left an impressive imprint on North America with even mid-level films tending to rake up impressive box office collections. Nonetheless, Nithiin’s new film Robinhood, out on March 28 on Ugadi-Eid weekend, failed to impress on both critical as well as box office fronts despite a promising lead pair of Nithiin and Sreeleela along with an action-comedy narrative. The movie flopped overseas.

Disappointing Performance Despite High Hopes

Robinhood possessed the recipe of a festival hit—a good premise, a bankable star cast, and rich promotions. The movie delves into the confrontation between a clever conman and a tainted drugs lord, helmed by Venky Kudumula and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. However, the execution was sloppy, with poor writing and lackluster performances that made what could otherwise have been an enjoyable entertainer into a boring experience.

Box Office Failure in North America

As much as there was buzz, Robinhood turned out to be one of the most disastrous box office failures in North America. The movie experienced an 80% downfall in the continent, with weak word-of-mouth and low collections at top chains such as Regal and AMC. Even independent successes such as MAD Square, which collected $2 million during the same weekend, did better than Robinhood, emphasizing the movie’s inability to hold the attention of the audience.

Pressure on Nithiin’s Next Film

With Robinhood’s poor box office performance, the spotlight has now shifted towards Nithiin’s second film, Thammudu. Venu Sriram’s family drama on the sibling bond will already have already created buzz with its first-look poster. For Nithiin, Thammudu will be crucial in deciding whether he can salvage himself from Robinhood’s disaster.
